Three pieces of equipment essential to any business

There are many software packages, pieces of furniture and technical products that go together to make up your business, but what are those pieces of equipment ever-working in the background that are the most important? What would affect your staff working environment the most if one day they stopped working?


In today’s article, I’m looking at the top three things that no business can do without. Those three understated items that make a huge difference, whether it’s based on health or workload.

The desk chair

There’s no way that I would be able to work well if I didn’t have a good chair to sit in. No matter what your field is, there will be certain members of staff who spend hours on end sat at their desk. They may take regular breaks, but a bad chair can mean back problems, neck problems, and not to mention a lower productivity as a result.


Ergonomics is a huge industry, and luckily there are plenty of products out there for reasonable prices that will help keep your staff happy and healthy. There are also many online walkthroughs of what you need to look out for when buying such ergonomic furniture, so that you make sure you get a good product while keeping it a strong business decision. Trust me, your employees will benefit hugely from the time you put into it, and it will show them how much you care about their wellbeing.


The printer

How many invoices, confidential documents and crucial contracts do you print out on a daily basis? If it’s a lot (like most businesses), then investing in a great quality printer is essential to the smooth running of company. On the one hand, it will reduce your maintenance costs significantly. By opting for the cheaper version, I can guarantee you’ll spend a lot more than you saved through the costs to fix it alone.


On the other hand, only the better quality machines will come with multi-functionality. For example, wireless, email-enabled printers are the most popular at the minute. You’ll have to shop around for the best deals, but Brother printers are perfect for this kind of work. Make sure you always buy ink and paper in bulk too; you can save a lot more by buying cheap Brother toner from rather than from a normal high street shop.


The smartphone

Smartphones are pretty much essential to modern staff, because so many are now mobile or home-based. The ability to get calls redirected to mobiles automatically, and emails picked up instantly is vital, but you’ll have to make sure that the model fits the staff member. For example, a member of your marketing department won’t last long in the field without internet access to pick up on important industry trends, while your salespeople need to access emails to pick up urgent messages about meeting changes.
